As the term implies, banner advertisements are usually found on the top part of the webpage you are visiting. Oftentimes, these banner advertisements are posted in websites that contain information relevant to your products and services. This is made possible through a special agreement made between the two companies through what is called link exchange. By allowing them to post a banner advertisement on these websites, and vice versa, they are able to reach a wider audience.

Too Much of a Good Thing is Bad

Nowadays, banner advertisements come in a variety of different sizes. Some are static, while some can be quite animated. The mere fact that this has remained the most effective means of promoting products and services over the Internet has caused banner advertisements to become so widely used. In fact, there is hardly a website anymore that does not contain less than two different banner advertisements. While it does provide online business entrepreneurs with a means to be able to increase website traffic flow and search engine ranking, this unknowingly do more harm than good.

As the popular saying goes, “too much of a good thing can be bad.” This can be said about using banner advertisements. By having way too many banner advertisements on your webpage, you actually divert the attention of your potential clients and customers. Sure, you may be able to increase the traffic flow of potential customers to your website. But these efforts would not do you much good if their attentions are caught by the flashy banner advertisement by a competing online business.

Another way how using too much banner advertisements can be deterrent to your online business is that because these would eat up much of the space on a particular webpage, it would make your articles and other content information appear to be longer than they are. Too much scrolling down can easily makes a potential customer or client bored and impatient about getting to the bottom line. Adding to their annoyance are the numerous banner advertisements that they see at the corner of their eyes. As a result, they would not be able to fully understand the content materials that you have provided as a supplementary means to encourage them to buy your products and services.

This does not mean to say that you should not include banner advertisements form other companies offering similar products and services. After all, this is one way for you to increase your search engine ranking and the flow of potential customers to your website. Just make sure that you are careful in laying out the banner advertisements provided by other companies to put in return for them allowing you to put your banner advertisement on their website.

One way to do this is to segregate the different kinds of banner advertisements. Animated and flashy advertisements should be kept on the top or bottom portion of the webpage. This way, you do not distract your potential customers and clients from reading through the content that you have provided. Also, if you do plan on putting advertisements on the side of your webpage, make sure that you keep them all in one side. This will allow you to allocate more space for your articles and other web content so that they would not give the impression that they are extremely long to read. Remember, not everyone loves reading. Some would want to get straight to the point.

If you do want to put more advertisements on your webpage but have consumed the top, bottom and one side of your webpage for this, try to see if the company that have allowed you to put a link on their webpage offers text-only advertisements. Not only would these be less flashy and distracting as compared to banner advertisements. They would also eat up less space, meaning more space for you to include other advertisements as a result of link exchanges.
